Abstract
Is Journey to the West strictly a Buddhist tale? Academician Li Feng-Mao presents a revolutionary reading of this classic masterpiece. He reveals that the Ming compilers subtly interwove Quanzhen Taoist precepts into the text, transforming the scripture-seeking protagonists into spiritual cultivators tested by worldly desires and emotional attachments. Exploring key concepts like Xing Man (fulfillment of deeds) and Xin Xing (conduct of the mind), this lecture uncovers how the epic "secretly channels Taoism." By blending Buddhist pilgrimage with Taoist inner cultivation, it reshapes our understanding of Journey to the West forever.
